The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), a premier not-for-profit healthcare institution in Karachi, Pakistan, is seeking an Assistant Manager for its Bed Management Office. AKUH delivers comprehensive medical services through its tertiary care hospital, a network of secondary hospitals, medical centers, clinical laboratories, and pharmacies nationwide. The hospital is internationally accredited and dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of patient care, safety, and welfare. The Assistant Manager will be instrumental in optimizing hospital bed utilization, ensuring efficient patient flow, and supporting clinical teams to provide timely and effective care.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the efficient allocation and utilization of hospital beds in alignment with clinical requirements.
- Coordinate bed assignments considering patient condition, bed availability, and priority levels.
- Manage real-time admissions, transfers, and discharges to maximize bed usage and minimize patient waiting times.
- Monitor patient flow across various departments, including the Emergency Department, to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Facilitate smooth patient transitions to inpatient units, reducing delays and enhancing the overall patient experience.
- Collaborate closely with clinical teams to support timely discharges and effectively manage periods of high patient volume or emergencies.
- Utilize bed management systems to track occupancy rates and forecast future bed needs.
- Prepare and provide regular reports on bed occupancy, patient flow, and transfer times to assist hospital leadership in operational decision-making.
- Ensure strict compliance with hospital policies, infection control protocols, and safety standards.
- Coordinate with nursing staff, physicians, and other departments to optimize bed utilization.
- Manage patient transfers to external healthcare facilities when required.
- Exhibit strong organizational and communication skills, maintaining effectiveness under pressure in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the Pakistan Nursing Council.
- Between 5 to 7 years of clinical and/or administrative experience in a healthcare setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current clinical and research literature, with familiarity in nursing quality assurance and continuous quality improvement.
- Proven problem-solving skills and ability to manage crises effectively.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong teaching skills to support staff development and training initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications and Additional Information
- A Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred, enhancing the candidate’s expertise and leadership potential.
