The HSE Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with fire prevention, emergency response, and occupational health and safety standards. This role involves active participation in firefighting operations, emergency preparedness, fire watch duties, and safety inspections. The officer supports overall HSE activities to minimize risks and promote a culture of safety within the workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly and effectively to fire, rescue, medical, and other emergency situations.
- Conduct firefighting operations using equipment such as fire extinguishers, hoses, hydrants, fire pumps, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Perform rescue operations in confined spaces, at heights, and hazardous areas.
- Participate in emergency drills, mock exercises, and evacuation procedures to maintain readiness.
- Carry out fire watch duties during hot work activities including welding, cutting, and grinding.
- Identify potential fire hazards and recommend corrective actions to reduce risks.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of flammable and combustible materials.
- Monitor work areas to prevent ignition sources and unsafe conditions.
- Enforce compliance with HSE policies, procedures, and site safety regulations.
- Oversee the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and promote safe work practices.
- Support Permit to Work (PTW) processes such as hot work, confined space entry, and working at height permits.
- Report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and near-miss incidents promptly.
- Inspect and maintain firefighting equipment including extinguishers, hoses, hydrants, alarms, and SCBA units.
- Ensure fire protection systems are operational and properly maintained.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and maintenance activities.
- Assist in delivering safety inductions, toolbox talks, and fire safety awareness sessions.
- Educate employees on emergency procedures, fire prevention, and safe workplace behavior.
- Guide personnel during evacuations and emergency situations.
- Support investigations and help implement corrective and preventive actions to improve safety.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum education level: Intermediate.
- 2-3 years of experience as a firefighter.
- Completion of Firefighter Course Level I & Level II (mandatory).
- Strong firefighting and emergency response skills.
- Knowledge of fire prevention systems and safety procedures.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure during emergencies.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit and medically cleared to perform firefighting duties.
Working Conditions
The role involves shift-based work schedules, including night shifts and emergency call-outs. The officer will be exposed to high-risk environments requiring constant vigilance and adherence to safety protocols. Regular use of firefighting and safety equipment is expected.
Job Type and Compensation
This is a full-time, on-site position offering a monthly salary range of Rs45,000 to Rs55,000. The role requires a dedicated professional committed to proactive fire safety and emergency response to ensure a secure workplace at all times.
