Role Description The Addiction Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based at Sun Shine Rehabilitation Welfare Center in Karachi. The counselor will provide individual and group counseling sessions, conduct assessments, develop personalized treatment plans, and support patients through all stages of recovery. Daily responsibilities include maintaining accurate clinical records, collaborating with medical and psychiatric teams, and participating in case reviews to ensure coordinated care. The counselor will facilitate psychoeducation, relapse-prevention activities, and family counseling, while promoting a safe, respectful, and culturally sensitive environment. This role also contributes to vocational and reintegration programs by helping patients build coping skills, motivation, and confidence for sober living.

Qualifications

 

  • Strong counseling and case management skills, including experience with individual and group therapy for substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of addiction treatment models, relapse-prevention strategies, and evidence-based psychosocial interventions.
  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries, demonstrate empathy, and handle sensitive information with confidentiality and integrity.
  • Solid organizational and documentation skills, including accurate record-keeping and basic computer proficiency.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field; relevant certifications in addiction counseling are an advantage.
  • Prior experience in rehabilitation, mental health, or community-based services is preferred, especially in high-need settings.
  • Comfort working on-site in Karachi and collaborating within a non-profit, mission-driven environment focused on long-term recovery and social reintegration.
