Background:

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. UN-Habitat has been a partner with the number of ministries at national and provincial levels, development partners, civil society organizations and academia.

UN-Habitat Pakistan Country Programme Pakistan, lays down the roadmap for achieving the New Urban Agenda focusing on right to adequate housing, universal access to safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation and other basic services, sustainable economic growth, building resilience and protection and conservation of natural habitat as well as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly SDG11 aiming to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. The Country Programme is aligned with the Pakistan United Nations Sustainable Development Framework (UNSDF 2023-2027) One UN Programme (OP-III).

UN-Habitat is committed to the transformative goal of "Leaving No One Behind" with focus on enhancing access to adequate housing and basic services to promote inclusive prosperity and eradicate poverty and signed an agreement of contribution with government of Netherlands to implement a project in the five cities (Haripur, Kohat, Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta) with Afghan refugee’s concentration to empower and support both communities in selected settlements by promoting  inclusive and sustainable urban development that prioritizes issues relating to housing and overcrowding, tenure insecurity, infrastructure, basic services and living conditions, economic opportunities, social cohesion and integration and improved living conditions, including preventing gender-based violence.

Objectives: the objective of this position is to provide reliable and secure driving services to provincial offices

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.

Under direct the supervision of the Provincial Coordinator the driver will perform the following tasks:

  • Secure and safe driving office vehicles for the transport of staff and authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items.
  • Picking and dropping official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa centre and other places for official meetings.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logbook, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents and ensure vehicle incident report is all the time available in the car.
  • Keeping contact with UNDSS during missions.
  • Follow UNDSS and National traffic rules including speed limit, overtake and parking rules and respect the protocol of Security Checkpoints.  
  • Perform other duties assigned by Provincial Coordinator.

  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair, knowledge of protocol and security issues.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Valid Driver’s license (ability to read and write Urdu)

Experience:

  • At least 1 years’ work experience as a driver preferably in NGOs or UN.
  •  Safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules, regulations, and skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • Experience of driving armoured vehicle and with international

Language:

Fluency in Urdu required. Fluency in Pashto/Balochi/Sindhi based on duty station will be an advantage.
