Job Description

Riphah International University seeks a knowledgeable and dedicated Lecturer in Pharmacognosy to deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate education. This role involves preparing and conducting lectures, tutorials, and practical laboratory sessions that focus on Pharmacognosy and related disciplines including natural product chemistry and phytochemical analysis. The candidate is expected to engage students with modern teaching methodologies, evaluate their progress, and provide academic mentoring. This position requires strong expertise in pharmacognosy, research methodology, and laboratory techniques to support both teaching and scholarly activities within the university. The role emphasizes conducting and supervising practical training sessions, including hands-on experience in botanical and phytochemical laboratory processes such as extraction, isolation, chromatography, and quality control. The Lecturer participates actively in research, publishing findings, and leading collaborative projects while contributing to curriculum development with updated scientific content aligned to regulatory standards. The role also involves participating in departmental operations, supporting accreditation activities, and staying current with developments in herbal and pharmaceutical sciences. Although this position does not involve managing a team, the Lecturer provides significant student mentoring and guidance towards academic development and professional growth.
Responsibilities
 

  • Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Pharmacognosy and related fields by preparing detailed course outlines, lecture plans, instructional materials, and assessment tools.
  • Conduct lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practical laboratory sessions using modern teaching approaches such as case-based and problem-based learning to enhance student engagement.
  • Evaluate student performance through various examination methods including quizzes, assignments, presentations, and practical assessments while maintaining accurate academic records.
  • Provide academic mentoring, guidance, and career counseling to students, fostering professionalism, ethics, and lifelong learning.
  • Conduct and supervise practical sessions involving the identification, authentication, collection, processing, and preservation of medicinal plants in Pharmacognosy and phytochemistry projects.
  • Demonstrate and train students in laboratory techniques such as microscopy, extraction, isolation, phytochemical screening, chromatographic methods, and quality control measures of natural products.
  • Ensure maintenance, calibration, and safe operation of laboratory equipment while enforcing laboratory safety regulations and upholding Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Engage in independent and collaborative research projects in Pharmacognosy, medicinal plants, and natural product sciences; publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research outcomes at national and international scientific conferences, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, and participate in grant applications and funded research initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development, revision, and continuous improvement of curricula, ensuring alignment with regulatory and accreditation standards and incorporating contemporary advancements in herbal medicine and pharmaceutical sciences.
  • Develop laboratory manuals, practical guides, and other learning resources to support teaching and student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, and quality assurance activities, supporting admissions, examinations, student evaluations, and accreditation processes.
  • Organize and support academic workshops, conferences, seminars, and community outreach initiatives to promote Pharmacognosy and related disciplines.
  • Remain updated on scientific and regulatory developments in pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, herbal medicines, and pharmaceutical sciences by engaging in professional development programs and maintaining memberships in professional organizations.
  • Comply with institutional policies, laboratory safety standards, and accreditation requirements to ensure a safe, productive, and compliant academic environment.
