Senior Research Assistant (I3P Project)

Introduction

The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.

This is a grant-funded contractual position.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

• independently conduct interviews and write up detailed notes on interviews and observation visits
• manage field work and process to ensure effective use of time
• facilitate meetings among the research team and junior research staff
• training new junior staff (Lady Health Workers - LHWs/Community Health Workers - CHWs) in research/interviewing skills and proper data collection
• visit different households in the communities to ensure the successful completion of the data collection in their areas including Q/C
• liaison with admin regarding logistics for field work
• develop and conduct regular trainings of LHWs and CHWs
• provide supervision and support for approximately LHWs/CHWs liaising with their supervisors
• raise wider community awareness of Child Health related issues based on prepared project activity guidelines
• follow and esnure field implementation of project related SOPs/guidelines as defined in the research project.

Requirements

You should have:

• Graduation or Masters Degree
• one to two years of relevant experience
• sensitivity to culture differences
• ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively
• excellent team player
• good communication and interpersonal skills
• resilience and ability to cope with work pressure
• willing to work in the communities.
