Position Overview:

The Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the strategic management, optimization, and security of KnowledgeCity's cloud-based data infrastructure. While leveraging managed services like AWS RDS, the Cloud DBA focuses on high-level architecture, performance tuning, and ensuring data integrity across MySQL environment. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between transactional databases and analytical systems, overseeing Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, and Big Data initiatives to support the BI and Engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

 

• Performance Optimization: Conduct deep-dive analysis of query execution plans to identify bottlenecks; implement advanced indexing and caching strategies to ensure sub-second response times.
• Cloud Infrastructure Management: Manage and scale AWS RDS instances, focusing on high availability, Multi-AZ deployments, and cost-efficient resource provisioning.
• Data Warehousing & Big Data: Architect and maintain Data Warehouse solutions and Data Lakes to support large-scale analytical processing and reporting.
• Security & Compliance: Implement robust Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), data encryption at rest/transit, and regular security auditing to meet global compliance standards.
• Disaster Recovery: Design and test automated backup strategies and Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR) procedures to ensure zero data loss.
• Scalability Planning: Manage Read Replicas, storage autoscaling, and vertical/horizontal scaling strategies to meet application growth demands.
• Cross-Team Support: Collaborate with the BI Reporting team to optimize the data layer for Power BI and web application performance.
• AI-Assisted Development: Leverage AI coding assistants to accelerate query writing, script automation, documentation, and troubleshooting workflows.
  
   

Required Qualification:

 

• Expert-level proficiency in AWS RDS (MySQL) management.
• Advanced SQL Query Optimization (tuning complex joins, subqueries, and window functions).
• Solid experience in Data Warehousing architecture and ETL pipeline support.
• Hands-on experience with Data Lake environments and Big Data technologies (e.g., AWS S3, Athena, or Glue).
• Experience with MySQL HeatWave or high-performance Oracle MySQL architectures is a significant plus.
  
   

AI & Developer Tools:

 

• May have experience with GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, or Cursor for AI-assisted scripting, query building, and workflow automation.
• Having experience with Claude (Anthropic) will be a big plus — including using Claude for complex query analysis, incident root-cause reasoning, writing technical runbooks, and database architecture review.
  
   

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation) for DB provisioning.
• Experience with Python or Bash for database task automation.
• Strong understanding of database internals, concurrency control, and locking mechanisms.
• Excellent analytical skills for monitoring CloudWatch metrics and Performance Insights.
