EFU Life Assurance Ltd. is looking for a Deputy Manager - Underwriting who will play a vital role in managing the underwriting process, ensuring thorough risk assessment, and maintaining policy administration accuracy. This position demands strong expertise in analyzing insurance risks, reviewing policy documentation, and complying with regulatory requirements. Although the candidate is not required to manage a team, the role necessitates close collaboration with various departments to optimize operational efficiency and service delivery. The ideal candidate possesses excellent knowledge of medical terminology, advanced decision-making abilities, and proficiency in insurance software along with data analysis tools such as Excel to support comprehensive reporting and documentation. The Deputy Manager is responsible for overseeing complex insurance applications and ensuring underwriting decisions align with internal guidelines and industry regulations. This role involves analyzing claims data to recognize trends and risks, maintaining technical documentation, and presenting clear findings to senior management. The candidate works closely with customer service, legal, actuarial, and claims teams to enhance customer satisfaction and uphold portfolio profitability, driving continuous improvement within the underwriting process.
Responsibilities
 

  • Perform thorough risk assessments on insurance applications utilizing established risk management frameworks to determine policy eligibility.
  • Review and validate all policy documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Analyze claims data to detect potential risks and emerging trends that might influence underwriting decisions.
  • Ensure all underwriting procedures and decisions comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal company policies.
  • Use insurance software and data analysis tools, including Excel, to maintain accurate records, track key metrics, and generate detailed reports.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology to assess health-related risks and communicate effectively with medical professionals when required.
  • Develop, maintain, and update technical documents and presentations that support underwriting activities and inform relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with customer service teams to improve client satisfaction by facilitating timely policy issuance and resolving policy-related issues efficiently.
  • Implement and monitor risk management strategies aimed at minimizing losses and maintaining the profitability of the insurance portfolio.
  • Coordinate with claims, actuarial, and legal departments to ensure consistency, transparency, and integrity in underwriting practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in underwriting workflows to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and improve overall service quality.
  • Manage document management systems to secure, organize, and preserve underwriting files, correspondence, and technical documentation.
  • Present detailed findings, risk analyses, and recommendations to senior management clearly and concisely.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices related to underwriting and risk management.
