Role: Assistant Manager Controls and Lease Operations

Function: Finance

Work Level: WL1

Reports to: Financial Controller

Scope: Local

Location: Karachi

Job Purpose

This role ensures a robust internal controls, governance, and compliance environment across both Head Office and Factory operations. The incumbent will lead risk assessments, control design, monitoring, testing, and capability building to safeguard financial integrity and operational discipline.

The role also manages all aspects of lease accounting, covering IFRS 16 and Islamic financing structures (e.g., Diminishing Musharaka), ensuring accurate reporting, reconciliations, and audit readiness.

Main Responsibilities

Internal Controls & Compliance (Head Office + Factory)

 

  • Implement and continuously improve the Magnum Financial Controls Framework across Head Office and Factory sites.
  • Conduct risk‑based controls assessments covering Finance, Procurement, HR, Commercial, Supply Chain, Production, QA, Engineering, and Warehouse functions.
  • Identify control gaps, recommend remediation actions, and track closure of corrective action plans.
  • Ensure compliance with global/local accounting policies, corporate governance requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Lead controls walkthroughs, operating effectiveness testing, and documentation reviews.
  • Deliver training to HO and Factory teams on policies, risk awareness, process discipline, and compliance expectations.
  • Support special investigations and process deep-dives where control failures or irregularities are suspected.

     

Factory Controls Strengthening

  • Strengthen end‑to‑end operational controls at the factory, including:
  • Conduct periodic factory visits for audits, walkthroughs, and surprise checks.
  • Collaborate with Plant Manager, Supply Chain, QA, and Engineering teams to embed SOPs and eliminate control failures.
     

Head Office Controls Oversight

  • Strengthen governance over financial reporting, month-end processes, procurement-to-pay, order-to-cash, payroll, treasury, and other corporate processes.
  • Ensure adherence to Delegation of Authority (DOA), policies, and approval workflows.
  • Support control design for new business processes, system changes, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Simplify and standardize processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual controls.

     

Lease Accounting 

  • Manage accounting for Diminishing Musharaka and other lease structures in compliance with IFRS 16 and Islamic accounting standards.
  • Prepare monthly amortization schedules, interest calculations, ROU asset movements, and reconciliations across systems.
  • Ensure accurate disclosures for statutory audits and management reporting.
  • Maintain complete documentation and ensure strong controls over lease data, approvals, and system entries.
  • Support auditors with timely, accurate, and compliant lease accounting evidence.

     

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and Commercial leadership to strengthen governance across the value chain.
  • Provide clear, simplified reporting and insights to finance and non‑finance stakeholders.
  • Support projects, system upgrades, and process redesigns from a controls and risk lens.
  • Act as a value‑add advisor to business teams while maintaining independence and control integrity.

     

Experiences & Qualifications

  • Professional qualification preferred (CA, ACCA, ICMA, MBA Finance).
  • 2–4 years of experience in internal controls, audit, or risk management, ideally within FMCG or manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of risk/control frameworks, SOX requirements, IFRS (esp. IFRS 16), and local Islamic accounting standards.
  • Experience in enterprise risk management, control self-assessments, and audit readiness.
  • Proficiency in SAP and advanced Excel.
  • Strong data analytics and testing skills on large datasets.
