About the role:
To lead and deliver automation initiatives across manufacturing and end-of-line production equipment, ensuring reliable, compliant, and efficient operations within a GMP pharmaceutical environment. The Automation Engineer will drive the automation of packaging and end-of-line systems, maintain process control infrastructure, and support capital projects as part of the Site Engineering function.
Key responsibilities:
Design, program, commission, and maintain PLC/SCADA/HMI systems for production and utility equipment
Lead automation of end-of-line production equipment including packaging lines, labellers, checkweighers, vision systems, and case erectors/sealers
Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for new automated systems
Manage automation-related capital projects from concept through commissioning, including vendor management and technical review
Maintain and improve Building Management Systems (BMS) and process control loops across utilities
Ensure all automation work complies with GMP and data integrity requirements
Author and review engineering documentation including URS, FDS, IQ/OQ/PQ protocols, and change controls
Troubleshoot and resolve automation-related breakdowns, minimising production downtime
Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities through automation and digitalisation
Support EHS requirements including PTW, LOTO, and safe systems of work for all automation activities
Candidate profile:
BE/BSc in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, or Mechatronics
5–8 years of hands-on automation experience, preferably in pharmaceutical, FMCG, or process manufacturing
Proven experience with end-of-line packaging automation
Proficiency in Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, or equivalent PLC platforms
Working knowledge of SCADA systems.
Familiarity with GMP environments and validation lifecycle
