A Biomedical Engineer specializing in Total Lab Automation (TLA) chemistry analyzers is responsible for the design, maintenance, calibration, and support of complex automated laboratory systems used for diagnostic analysis. This role combines engineering principles with clinical chemistry knowledge to ensure equipment accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.


 

Core Responsibilities:


 

  • Equipment Installation & Maintenance: Install, set up, calibrate, and test new TLA systems and chemistry analyzers. Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) and safety checks to ensure peak operational efficiency.


 

  • Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and repair malfunctions on complex automated laboratory equipment, which may involve intricate mechanical, electrical, and software issues. This may require being on call for immediate assistance during odd hours to ensure continuous lab operations.


 

  • Technical Support & Training: Provide expert technical support and guidance to laboratory staff and clinicians. Conduct training sessions for personnel on the proper and safe use of the automated systems and their specific software applications.


 

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure all equipment and processes comply with relevant regulatory standards and quality control protocols (e.g., ISO, FDA, local health codes). Participate in quality improvement projects and audits.


 

  • Inventory & Documentation: Manage equipment inventory, including tracking usage, repairs, and replacement schedules. Prepare and maintain detailed reports and technical documentation, including service records, protocols, and maintenance logs.


 

  • Collaboration & Process Improvement: Work closely with lab managers, chemists, and other engineers to analyze data trends, optimize system performance, and improve laboratory workflows.


 

Key Skills and Qualifications


 

  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related technical field is typically required.


 

  • Technical Expertise:
  • Hands-on experience with medical laboratory equipment, specifically automated chemistry analyzers and TLA systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, software applications, and interpreting technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong understanding of chemistry and the analytical principles behind how analyzers measure chemical changes in samples.
