Located in Clifton, Karachi, this full-time position offers an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional with 4 to 6 years of experience in the Smart Grid industry, focusing on distribution network planning and protection studies. The role centers on detailed analysis and planning of medium voltage (MV) feeders and substations, utilizing electrical modeling tools to optimize the placement of electrical components. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project execution and integration of automation systems. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of MV feeders and substations using electrical modeling software to support effective network planning.
- Determine optimal locations for electrical components by considering load segmentation, fault isolation zones, switching logic, and restoration strategies.
- Perform load flow, short-circuit, and contingency studies to guide placement decisions.
- Collect and validate network data through coordination with field teams and system engineers to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
- Define signal requirements such as status, measurements, and alarms for each proposed element location.
- Collaborate with system and telecom teams to verify communication feasibility and ensure integration with automation systems.
- Prepare detailed Optimal Location Study (OLS) reports, including technical justifications, maps, and device specifications.
- Present findings to internal stakeholders and client representatives, maintaining thorough documentation of assumptions, calculations, and recommendations.
- Work closely with protection, automation, planning, and commissioning teams to align OLS outputs with project execution.
- Support the development of implementation plans and signal commissioning schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
- 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in distribution network planning, protection studies, or smart grid projects.
- Strong knowledge of MV distribution systems (11kV/33kV), feeder topology, and automation principles.
- Proficiency in network analysis tools such as ETAP, CYME, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Familiarity with communication protocols including IEC 60870-5-104 and DNP3, as well as system architecture.
- Excellent command of English and Urdu, with strong technical writing and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications and Additional Skills
- Experience working with utility clients.
- Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and data visualization tools like Power BI.
Candidates will be evaluated based on their experience as an Optimal Location Study (OLS) Engineer, familiarity with distribution network planning or smart grid projects involving 11kV/33kV systems, proficiency in network analysis software, and knowledge of relevant communication protocols. This role requires in-person attendance at the Karachi office.
