About the Role

We're looking for a remote Accountant to support accounting operations for Canadian clients and assist Senior Accountants and Managers with day-to-day accounting activities.
You'll support multiple client accounts while working alongside Senior Accountants and Managers. For many clients, we are their complete accounting department - your work directly contributes to accurate financial records and timely reporting. You'll gain exposure to a variety of industries and accounting processes while developing your technical skills and growing within the firm.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting who enjoys detailed execution work, takes pride in accuracy, and is eager to learn. Every client is different, so you'll need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt while maintaining high standards.


Our IDEAL CANDIDATE brings 1-3 years of accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable, or accounts receivable experience. You're detail-oriented, reliable, and proactive in completing tasks accurately and on time. You're eager to learn from experienced Managers and Senior Accountants while developing your technical accounting skills.
Your performance will be measured by accuracy, timeliness, responsiveness, and willingness to learn.
You'll collaborate closely with Senior Accountants, Managers, and other Accountants within the Managed Accounting Department.


This position reports directly to the Senior Manager.


You'll be doing things like:

• Accounting Operations & Reconciliations: Processing accounts payable invoices; assisting with accounts receivable activities; applying customer payments; maintaining vendor records; performing bank, credit card, and account reconciliations; posting transactions and journal entries; maintaining accurate accounting records.
• Month-End Support: Assisting with month-end close activities; preparing reconciliation schedules and supporting documentation; investigating discrepancies; supporting Senior Accountants with accruals, adjustments, and account analysis.
• Financial Reporting Support: Assisting with preparation of monthly financial reports and supporting schedules; preparing AR aging reports; maintaining organized working papers and documentation; supporting the preparation of financial packages for review by Senior Accountants and Managers.
• Client Service & Communication: Responding promptly to routine client inquiries; gathering requested documentation; participating in phone and video calls when required; following up on outstanding information needed to complete accounting tasks.
• Year-End Support: Assisting with year-end packages for external accountants and auditors; gathering supporting documentation; uploading documents to client and auditor portals; assisting with reconciliations and audit requests.
• Team Collaboration: Coordinating with Senior Accountants and Managers on client deliverables; communicating file status and outstanding items; building knowledge of multiple client files to support team coverage; assisting colleagues during busy periods.
• Process Improvement: Following documented procedures and SOPs; identifying opportunities to improve efficiency; supporting automation and process improvement initiatives; contributing ideas to improve team workflows.


Skills & Qualifications
• 1-3 years' experience as an Accountant, Accounting Assistant, Bookkeeper, Accounts Payable Specialist, Accounts Receivable Specialist, or similar accounting role
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
• Experience with bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial record maintenance
• Basic understanding of financial statements and accounting principles
• Proficiency with QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar accounting software
• Intermediate Excel skills including formulas, lookups, sorting, filtering, and reconciliations
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Proactive communication and willingness to ask questions when needed
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with remote teammates


Bonus if you also have:
• Experience working with Canadian clients
• Familiarity with Canadian accounting practices and business culture
• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
• Exposure to process improvement, SOP documentation, or automation tools
• Familiarity with our tools: QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, Sage, Excel, Microsoft 365, Slack, Teams, Gmail, Outlook, Google Meet, Asana, Harvest, Google Drive, ADP, Ceridian, Bullhorn, Expensify, Rydoo, Wise
Position Details
• Working Hours: Fixed - 9AM-5PM ET (Eastern Time Zone). Adjusts with Daylight Saving Time.

• Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours/week), Exclusivity Preferred
• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. ACCA, CA, CPA pathway, or equivalent accounting studies in progress is considered an asset but not required.
• Compensation: Competitive, based on experience and region. Structured as a Consultant Agreement (independent contractor), meaning you'll be responsible for your own taxes, benefits, and insurance.
