Role Description

This is a full-time remote role for a Database Administrator. The Database Administrator will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing databases to ensure they function efficiently. Key responsibilities include managing database structures, troubleshooting performance or integrity issues, setting up and managing database replication, and ensuring data security. The role demands proactive monitoring and resolving of database issues to maintain seamless operations within a high-performing, digitally driven team environment.
 

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage, monitor, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production and non-production environments
• Design, implement, and support high-availability (HA) architectures using Patroni
• Configure and manage PostgreSQL clusters with automatic failover and replication (streaming replication)
• Ensure database high availability, performance, scalability, and security
• Perform backup and recovery operations using tools like pgBackRest, WAL-G, or similar
• Monitor database health using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or native PostgreSQL logs
• Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and configuration tuning
• Handle failover, switchover, and disaster recovery (DR) scenarios
• Work closely with DevOps and backend teams for deployment, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation
• Implement database security best practices (roles, access control, encryption, auditing)
• Troubleshoot production issues and ensure minimal downtime
• Maintain documentation for database architecture, processes, and recovery procedures
   

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in production environments
• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL internals, performance tuning, and replication
• Hands-on experience with Patroni for HA cluster management
• Experience with streaming replication, failover strategies, and cluster orchestration
• Proficiency in Linux system administration (Ubuntu, RHEL, etc.)
• Experience with backup/recovery tools (pgBackRest, WAL-G, or similar)
• Knowledge of monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack)
• Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes is a plus)
• Experience with scripting (Bash, Python) for automation
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
   

Prefered Qualification

• Experience with distributed systems and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Knowledge of Kubernetes-based PostgreSQL operators
• Experience in database migration and upgrades with minimal downtime
• Familiarity with connection pooling tools (PgBouncer, Pgpool-II)
• Understanding of security compliance standards (ISO, SOC2, etc.)
