Senior Database Administrator

Our client is a reputable organization within Pakistan’s healthcare sector, supported by a dedicated team of over 50 professionals. They are currently seeking a Manager – Database & Systems to lead their database and systems teams. This pivotal role involves ensuring the availability, security, performance, and scalability of the company’s IT infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic planning, providing technical leadership, coordinating procurement, enforcing policies, and continuously improving database and system operations to support the organization’s business goals.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management:
Lead and mentor a diverse team including Database Administrators, Systems Engineers, Programmer Analysts, and Trainees. Promote Continuing Professional Education (CPE) to enhance team capabilities. Manage performance evaluations, manpower planning, recruitment, and resource allocation to build and maintain a high-performing team.

Systems & Infrastructure Management:
Evaluate access, information, and security requirements to design a resilient system infrastructure. Oversee the selection, installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of server hardware, software, and operating systems. Monitor system performance, conduct tuning, and perform load and stress testing. Collaborate with development teams or vendors to resolve application issues and ensure system availability aligns with service standards.

Database Management:
Supervise database design, sizing, maintenance, recovery, and security processes. Work closely with software development teams to support database design for new applications and enhancements. Enforce standards for database and system design, maintenance, and documentation to ensure consistency and reliability.

Security, Backup & Compliance:
Maintain secure system access controls, continuous monitoring, and robust backup and recovery procedures. Develop and refine Quality Indicators (QI), Policies, and Procedures (P&P) to uphold organizational IT standards. Ensure strict compliance with internal IT policies and regulatory requirements.

Procurement & Vendor Management:
Coordinate procurement activities including technical evaluation and assessment of new IT equipment. Liaise with vendors regarding customer support, product evaluations, licensing, and service-related issues to ensure optimal vendor performance.

Planning & Reporting:
Prepare short-term and long-term IT resource forecasts based on usage trends and strategic objectives. Provide regular reports to management detailing project progress, outcomes, and resource utilization.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
Stay updated with the latest technological advancements in databases, systems, and storage solutions. Provide technical leadership to encourage innovation and drive operational excellence within the teams.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in managing databases, systems, and storage environments.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Oracle and MS SQL Server RDBMS platforms.
- Comprehensive knowledge of database security, backup, and recovery techniques.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
