Company Description HOPES (Help of Patients in Exigency by Students) is a non-political welfare organization run by the students of Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC), dedicated to alleviating human suffering. The organization operates free and low-cost drug banks, pharmacies, and a 24-hour diagnostic laboratory at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, and KMDC, serving non-affording patients with essential medicines and diagnostic services. HOPES also provides free or subsidized diagnostic and radiological tests and supports patients in need of blood and blood products. In addition to healthcare services, HOPES actively responds to natural disasters, including earthquakes and floods, particularly in district Dadu. The organization is sustained through donations, zakat campaigns, and community events, ensuring that every contribution directly supports vulnerable patients and communities.
Role Description The Sonologist/Radiologist is a full-time, on-site position based in the Karachi Division, responsible for providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to patients served by HOPES-affiliated facilities. The role includes performing and interpreting ultrasound, X-ray, and other radiological examinations, ensuring accurate reporting to support clinical decision-making and patient management. The Sonologist/Radiologist will collaborate closely with physicians, medical students, and allied health professionals to prioritize patient safety, evidence-based practice, and compassionate care, particularly for non-affording patients. Daily responsibilities also include maintaining imaging equipment, adhering to radiation safety and infection control protocols, supervising or guiding technical staff where required, and contributing to continuous improvement of diagnostic services. Participation in organizational initiatives, such as quality assurance activities and community health programs, is encouraged to support HOPES’ mission of accessible healthcare.
Qualifications
 

  • Clinical expertise in Medicine and Radiology, with the ability to correlate imaging findings with clinical presentations.
  • Proficiency in Medical Imaging modalities, including ultrasound and X-ray, with strong skills in Mammography where applicable.
  • Foundational or advanced knowledge in Nuclear Medicine, with the ability to understand and, where relevant, support nuclear imaging studies.
  • Recognized medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and postgraduate qualification in Radiology/Sonology (e.g., FCPS, FRCR, MCPS, DMRD, or equivalent), with valid registration from the relevant medical council.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical, patient-centered care, especially for low-income and vulnerable populations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, student-led environment.
  • Experience in high-volume public sector or charity hospital settings is an asset; familiarity with local healthcare systems and practices in Karachi is preferred.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, maintain accurate records, and adhere to safety and quality standards in diagnostic.
